The Wild Teasel
belongs to the subfamily Dipsacoideae within the honeysuckle family. Even though the inflorescence is reminiscent of that of thistles (Asteraceae), this development in teasel and thistle occurred independently of one another. The combination of many individual flowers in false flowers seems to be evolutionarily advantageous for interaction with certain insects. Wild teasel is a biennial herbaceous plant. In the first year, the plant forms strong rosettes and a tuberous root. It is not until the following year that the teasel grows to a size of up to 200 cm. On the stem, opposite, fused leaves form the so-called Venus basin in which rainwater collects. This basin, which serves as a water source for thirsty creatures such as birds and insects, gives the teasel its name (Dipsacus, Dipsa Greek for thirst). The water of the Venus basin is also known locally as beauty water (if you are interested in this special water, please contact our staff). Towards the middle of summer, the teasel forms its inflorescences. The individual flowers of the inflorescence open in colorful purple rings and allow the teasel to shine in all its beauty.

Questions about the tincture approach, storage, processing and possible combinations What do we use to make the teasel tea & tincture? We source our wild teasel roots exclusively from uncontaminated and home-grown plants. This is the only way we can ensure the consistently high quality of our products. The fresh teasel root is cleaned and chopped immediately after harvest. In the next step, it is placed in the extraction liquid and stirred weekly. The wild teasel root tincture matures for at least 6 months before bottling. To make the tea, the roots are gently dried at temperatures below 30 degrees. We completely avoid the use of chemicals and additives. How long do the wild teasel tea and tincture last? The tincture will last at least 2 years when sealed (even if it has already been opened once). The tea has a shelf life of at least 1 year. What is the best way to store the products? The tincture and tea should not be exposed to direct sunlight and should be stored dry at room temperature (24°C).
